2016/2017 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Match day 1

As usual, yesterday champions league football commenced and here are some of my thoughts about what transpired yesterday.
The return of the NEMESSIS
Let me break down the NEMESSIS
NE- Neymar
MESSI-Messi
S-Suarez
I nicknamed the greatest forward line in history yet, arguably of course, NEMESSIS, contrary to the MSN they are called.I am a name perSon like that*smiles*
I digress
New Season, Two south American blonde bombshells with new hairdos and same devastating forward line. They ran the Celtic team ragged with their swift passing, deft touch, (did you see Mess’s second goal?2 one twos in the midst of 6 players and goal!!!),fantastic runs off the ball and generally otherworldly quality. Messi bagged a hat trick,Neymar 4 assists and a textbook free kick and Suarez with 2 goals .It is business as usual for the Blaugrana. Apart from the front three, the whole team had an excellent all round game. With Andre Gomes doing a fantastic job in the midfield alongside Busquests, Umtiti forming a very solid partnership with Pique and Ter Stegen repaying the faith of Luis Enrique in him with a saved penalty.Barcelona mean business this season.

Saved by Saul Niguez
Saul Niguez ,the Spanish midfielder in recent times, has developed the penchant of scoring important goals when Atletico Madrid need it the most.A tough tript,it proved,to the Netherlands and they had to settle for a 1-nil win over a very resilient PSV Eindhoven side. Not a bad way to start the Campaign for Diego Simeone and his troops.
There are no minnows,you know
FC basel had to scrap for a draw against a very spirited and defensively astute Ludogoret Razgrad side in their opening match of the campaign in front of their home fans.Though below expectation,a point is by far better than leaving with no point. With subsequent matches with Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain looming, let us just hope that this would not come back to haunt them.
A tale of two
I read somewhere that ‘Edinson Cavani makes Nicklas Bendtner look clinical,Theo Walcott composed and  Olivier Giroud look like Gabriel Batistuta’.This had me laughing for days. However incredulous, sarcastic or shady that statement may be,there is a lot of truth in it.For a man that scored before it clocked a minute yesternight,it was criminal and somewhat very suprising to watch his confidence and finishing wane as the match grew. This is not the first time Cavani has missed more than he scored. It has become his favorite pastime as he continuously puts PSG in precarious situations with his non challant profligacy.
Cavani aside,Wenger was lucky that he earned a point because his team selection was more than dreadful with Arsenal starting without a spearhead in attack and Alexis Sanches playing in an unfamiliar No 9 role.Monsieur Wenger,WELL DONE SIR!!*wears sarcastic grin and hisses*.
No Pep No problem
Bayern Munich thrashed Rostov in emphatic fashion.Ancelotti seems to slot in like a square peg in a square hole in this team,it feels as though Guardiola never left. They are definitely among tournament favorites.
Manchester City vs  Borrussia Monchelgladbach
Postponed to Wednesday as a result of adverse weather conditions.
